What is Alpha Kappa Psi?

Can I be a member of another organization and still join?

Yes! In fact, we encourage our members to be as active on campus as possible.  Most of our members are part of professional societies for their major or various honor societies on campus.  It is even possible to be a member of a social fraternity/sorority as well as a professional fraternity. However, to be eligible to join Alpha Kappa Psi, you must not be in another organization under the Professional Fraternity Council.

As a business fraternity, Alpha Kappa Psi offers much more than professional development. We strive to meet the balance between professional and social development by surrounding ourselves with like-minded and encouraging individuals. What is rush?

Rush is a week-long set of events spanning from open informational sessions to invitational professional interviews held at the beginning of Fall and Spring quarter. Our rush objectives are to educate prospective brothers about the fraternity and learn more about the candidates for our incoming pledge class. Our first three days of rush are open to everyone, and we encourage everyone to attend as many of them as possible. At the conclusion of open rush, a select group of rushees will be invited back for a coffee chat with the brothers and may subsequently be offered an interview during which they have the opportunity to present themselves in a professional environment. Candidates may expect the interview to feel very similar to a job interview. Lastly, the chapter may offer a bid to candidates we feel will provide significant contribution to our fraternity.

What is a bid?

A bid is an invitation to participate in the pledge process in preparation to joining our fraternity.

Do I need to be a Business Economics/Economics major to rush?

We are open to all majors! The diversity amongst our brothers is one of our strongest traits; we have majors in Biology, Communication Studies, Forestry, Mathematics, Computer Science, Political Science and many others.

What type of rush candidate are you looking for?

While there is no standard rush candidate, our ideal rushees are highly motivated, passionate, intelligent candidates. Our members bring their unique personalities and backgrounds into our community, they strive to reach goals and support Brothers in achieving theirs. Ultimately, we are looking for individuals who are excited about contributing to Alpha Kappa Psi.

What can I do during Rush to give me the best chance of receiving a bid?

The best thing you can do during the rush process is to come to as many events as you can, meet as many of our brothers as you can, and be yourself! We are looking for members who are excited to join our fraternity and who we believe can help us become better as a chapter. Just like you are looking for an organization that is the right fit for you, we are looking for members who are the right fit for our fraternity.

If I don’t receive a bid, can I rush again?

Yes! Oftentimes, it is the case that we have more qualified potential members than we can extend bids to. We highly encourage that those who do not receive bids to come back and rush again. Candidates who rush more than once show a high level of interest and commitment, which may provide a better chance to receive a bid.

What is the pledge process like?

The pledge process is designed to develop your personal and professional skills. You will be involved in organizing various social, professional and service events and given the opportunity to network and hone your leadership abilities. In accordance with university regulations, we have a strict no-hazing policy.
